Mambo
In Havana Cuba during the 1940s a new rhythm emerged from the Cuban Danzón. Musicians used the word “mambo” to describe this new beat. Mambo soon spread from Havana to New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Mexico and Puerto Rico. The Palladium nigh club in New York became known as the hottest spot for Mambo dancing with Cuban Pete and Mille Donay as the club’s most popular mambo couple.
Mambo music carries an accent on the second beat so dancing begins on the second beat instead of the first.
Movie: “The Mambo Kings”. |
