Paso Doble
Paso Doble (pass -o- dough blay) is a very masculine theatrical ballroom couples dance with many dramatic poses, leaps, stomps and much attitude. The dance was created to mimic the movements of a Bullfight with the Toreador (Bullfighter) and his partner as the Cape (Cappa or Capa). The Paso Doble dance became popular with the upper classes in Paris around the 1930's (which explains the many French terms used in the dance).
Paso Doble means "Two Steps" and is done to 2/4 time "Spanish March" music. It has roots in the Spanish Flamenco dances making it a an exhibition or competition dance but not a social dance. The Paso Doble Flamenco is the similar but uses castanets and is not done in the ballroom.
Music: 'España Cañi'
