Salsa

In the 1960 the Latin rhythms of Mambo and Chachachá became less popular. After a decade away from the spotlight, evolving in Spanish-speaking communities like New York, Miami, Columbia and Puerto Rico, latin music regained its popularity the 1970s as Salsa.

Salsa and Mambo have similar steps, but Salsa dancing begins on the first beat instead of the second and the tempo is faster.

Casino Salsa or “Rueda” is danced in a circle with a group of couples while one person calls out the steps the group will do. The couples change partners as they dance following the cues of the group’s leader.
